The term “leaky gut” is widely used in both scientific literature and popular health discussions, but it carries some controversy. In medical research.

Should we be using it or is it better to use “intestinal permeability” or “gut barrier dysfunction” to maintain accuracy and credibility.

What are your thoughts?

It’s a great point and I would usually talk about this as “intestinal permeability” but the US clinics are still diagnosing with the term “leaky gut” so for ease of clients to find the information I typically use that term with them. I’m seeing an equal amount of reference in the literature to “intestinal permeability” so maybe there’s hope we can swing that way once and for all. So I will do my part moving forward to help get us there! 🤞🏻

I must confess I have used the words in some of my articles 🙈

Leaky gut syndrome I cannot understand that term .

It is not a validated medical diagnosis.
